New Administration Offers Hope to Stem Cell Scientists

Dan KaufmanThe January inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th president of the United States has many in the scientific community hopeful that restrictions on federal funding for embryonic stem cell research will be lifted.

Dan Kaufman, M.D., Ph.D., associate director of the Stem Cell Institute, was interviewed on Minnesota Public Radio about how a policy reversal could help propel medical advances for a variety of diseases.

"It's a change in attitude. It's obviously doing something that's pro-science instead of trying to inhibit science,” Kaufman said.

Jennifer Linde, Ph.D., is associate professor at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health
